music, food, stereotypes, and anxiety

listening to music is like eating food. just cause it’s good for you doesn’t mean you always want it, and just cause it’s bad for you doesn’t mean you don’t crave it.

so listen to innovative and artistic bands that push the boundaries of music, but don’t always take things seriously. if you wanna just relax and kick back to a pop song, do it. hell, i like radiohead and pink floyd as much as the next critical music listener, but once in a while i like to kick back and sing and dance to tik tok or backstabber by kesha (yea, she sucks, but sometimes i just wanna have fun).

i think derrek miller from sleigh bells said it best. back in the 80s, the way you dressed defined the music you listened to (i’d say this would be accurate till mid-2000s), but nowadays, you could meet someone dressed as a punk, and they not only like punk bands, but maybe katy perry and the flaming lips. that’s awesome. no one should let themselves be confined into a box.

anxiety sucks. i can feel it crawling back in. not constant, just in waves. i’ll be fine for a little bit, but than get a huge wave. i just keep telling myself to breathe, calm down, and pray. i hate how it seems depression and anxiety are glorified in the world of art and music. i understand some of the best art came from the darkest times of someone’s lives, but the same can be said for the happiest times too. it sucks when you meet people who strive to be depressed cause they think it’s “cool” (of course they’d never admit that).

perhaps, i shouldn’t judge too much on that though, you never truly know anyone’s pain and how they feel. being happy rules. i’m trying to breathe and calm down right now. smile, life’s not that bad.
